★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Do not sign a lease at Icon!Following a fire on 7/30 that caused extensive damage but somehow failed to trigger a fire alarm, leaving residents to evacuate themselves, building management has ignored residents and continued to put their safety at risk.Management did not acknowledge the extent of the fire or burst water pipes for days.Workers from a restoration company randomly tore out walls and floors creating heavy layers of dust & piles of debris. Residents now deal with exposed cables, holes in walls opening to hallways, torn up floors & dust and odors.Elevators routinely don't work due to all the damage leaving residents to climb stairs in a 40+ story building. Most recently stairwells are often blocked with carts, damaged furniture and drywall and flooring, creating more safety hazards.Management just sent out utility bills that more than doubled the prior month's bills.Even though residents can't access the features they are paying for, management has only offered a partial abatement of a single month of rent as a remedy.Management won't offer any concrete plan or timeline leaving residents in chaos and uncertainty.
August 27 · Icon TenantIf you want to live at a construction site filled with dust and hazardous materials, this is the perfect place! Apartment management doesn’t care about residents’ health or safety. I had to evacuate myself when I noticed smoke in the hallway during a fire serious enough to activate the sprinkler system. None of the residents were told to evacuate, nor did we hear a fire alarm.
August 25 · Q SarahFirst two years were ok, management company pretty useless and we were getting wayyyy overcharged on utilities that they managed and billed us for ($250-300/mo even in months we didn’t run AC and weren’t in the country for 2 weeks at a time), no explanation after multiple were demanded, we refused to pay unless they were more regimented in how our bill was communicated. No resolution despite 6mo+ of complaints and then management changed and the problem stopped. Most recently though, it has been awful. Had high hopes for new management company but recently there was a fire, and a burst water pipe/flooding that shut down utilities for a few days, and borked the elevators. It has been 2 weeks since and still no updates on timeframe for when to expect a formal summary of timeline so we can file a claim with our renters insurance, and no updates on timeline for when repairs are going to be done. They ignored repeated emails from me asking for details, what work is needed to be done, no replies or anything. They say some fans need to be installed Sat. Sure, ok. Contractors come in and start telling us they’re ripping up the floors and half the drywall, and we literally had to yoink everything from our closets and throw it in the living room in 5min, and then hurriedly pack a bag so we could stay with family/friends because our apartment is absolutely unlivable for an indeterminant amount of time (air quality still dangerously bad per our air purifier, despite fans and HVAC going, we wear N95’s to walk around unit and building now). No notice of noise or safety guidance, no heads up about construction that makes our apartment unlivable, and the general lack of communication is absolutely unacceptable and downright infuriating. Not to mention the one “working” elevator is being manually operated and has no door, which I’m not sure is safe at all.Cannot emphasize how angry and frustrating this experience has been, and how concerning the lack of safety information and precautions are (e.g., informing us of the hazardous air quality that would be caused by construction, and giving us ample time to prepare and vacate unit). 0/10, management needs to get it together and stop leaving all the residents hanging and unable to complete an insurance claim.
August 11 · Olivia QiuAs a current resident, this building is inhabitable. Everything is broken, just read everyone else’s review, they are real. Management is non-existent. I won’t stay here for half the amount of rent I’m paying right now. Workers start smashing our walls in the hallway 8 am on Sundays. Opening the apartment door every day promises a new surprise. Today it’s this:
August 10 · Danqing WangAs a current resident, it is horrible to live in this building. Please don’t do it to yourself! This week while it’s been 94° in New York, we have gone several days without water, AC, Internet and elevators. The last update from management was over 18 hours ago. They don’t pick up the phone when you call them, they don’t respond to emails and the concierge at the front does not pick up. In fact, the only email we have received in the last 18 hours is an highly unprofessional email from the concierge cursing out the superintendent. The management here is horrific. The elevator is constantly broken. There’s always a problem in the building. They are extremely unresponsive. The security in the building is practically nonexistent. I’ve brought up several security and safety concerns up to management and they just ignore it.Right outside of the building, there are tons of drug addicts and unhinged people sleeping and defecating right by the door. This is really inhumane. I’m on a really high floor and without an elevator it is very difficult to leave the building or get back into my apartment. How is this allowed.
