If ever considering subleasing an apartment from this glorified dorm style apartment largely filled with thieves and scammers—think again. This apartment building is what occurs when self important transplants coalesce. The word “queer” “community” will be incessant while a dweller takes your money while in the process of being evicted. My husband and I made the mistake of subletting an apartment from a squatter by the name of Miranda Amey who sublet her apartment to us under gross false pretenses. Not only was she not allowed to sublet her apartment to us—her landlord had been trying to evict her for months as she failed to pay rent and her utilities. It became ever more apparent that she was unemployed and had no money and thus took the almost 10k we gave her and spent it recklessly without giving us our security deposit back after we cleaned her apartment decorated with cheap and broken furniture we suspect she found at the side of the road, for hours—the first time it’s ever happened to either of us.The apartment complex has many like her. Entitled squatters abound. There is a squatter just doors down who sleeps in the dark as there is no electricity in the vacant apartment. This is what goes on here.I genuinely feel a pang of pity for management who have to deal with these people. - Sue-Ann Jarrett

This article will delve into the details of the property, its location, and the general living experience, based on available public reviews. It’s important to understand that the information provided here is based on publicly shared perspectives and may not reflect every individual's experience. Our goal is to present a balanced overview, allowing you to form your own opinion and make an informed decision should you consider this location for your next home.

Introduction / Overview

The Opera House Lofts is a residential building situated in Brooklyn, New York. While the provided information classifies it as a "real estate agency," it is more accurately a residential building with a distinct living community. The property is known for its loft-style apartments, which often feature high ceilings and a rustic, industrial aesthetic. According to resident reviews, the building has a notable history and a specific character that sets it apart from more modern developments. It's often described as having a functional and comfortable, if "rundown," quality that is characteristic of certain New York City buildings. The community within the building is a key aspect of its identity, with some tenants praising the friendly neighbors, while others describe a more complex social environment. The building's amenities, while present, have reportedly been affected by issues such as a tenant union, which led to the closure of communal spaces like the basement. This suggests a dynamic and sometimes challenging management and social structure. The building appears to be primarily focused on long-term rentals, with some residents having lived there for years, indicating a certain level of stability despite the reported issues.

The name "Opera House Lofts" itself hints at a historical past, a common trait for many converted buildings in New York City. The publicly available reviews suggest a diverse range of experiences, from those who appreciate the communal and rustic atmosphere to those who have had negative encounters related to subleasing and interpersonal conflicts. This complexity is a key part of the building's overview, highlighting the importance of thorough due diligence for anyone considering living here.
