Enclave at the Cathedral Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a new home, finding an apartment that aligns with both lifestyle and location needs is a top priority. In the vibrant neighborhood of Morningside Heights, a distinctive presence on the rental landscape is the Enclave at the Cathedral. This apartment complex, managed by a well-known organization in the city, offers a specific type of living experience that caters to a certain clientele. Situated on the historic grounds of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the buildings are designed to offer a unique blend of modern living with a nod to the surrounding historic architecture. As a rental apartment agency, Enclave at the Cathedral is focused on providing on-site services and a range of amenities to its residents. Potential renters should be aware that the experience of living here, like any large residential building in a major city, can be subject to specific policies and management styles that may or may not suit everyone's personal preferences. The best approach is always to gather as much information as possible to make an informed decision about what is right for you, ensuring that you fully understand the community's policies before you sign a lease.
The Enclave at the Cathedral is located in the bustling yet serene Morningside Heights neighborhood, an area of Upper Manhattan known for its academic institutions and cultural landmarks. The exact address is 400 W 113th St, New York, NY 10025, USA. This prime location is a major draw for many residents, especially those with connections to nearby academic centers like Columbia University and Barnard College. The buildings sit adjacent to the world-famous Cathedral of St. John the Divine, providing some residences with unique and dramatic views of the landmark. The accessibility of this location is another key feature for New Yorkers. The area is highly walkable, with a Walk Score that places it in a "Walker's Paradise" category. Residents also have excellent access to public transportation, including multiple subway lines (1, 2, 3, A, B, C, and D) and bus routes, which make commuting across the city incredibly convenient. The surrounding area offers a mix of cafes, restaurants, and green spaces, including Morningside Park and Riverside Park, providing a well-rounded urban living experience right outside your door. The convenience of a nearby park and the ease of travel are significant factors for city dwellers looking for a place to call home.
As an apartment rental agency, Enclave at the Cathedral provides a variety of on-site services designed to enhance the living experience for its residents. These services aim to create a convenient and comfortable environment, addressing many of the day-to-day needs of city living directly within the building. The presence of these amenities and services is a significant part of the value proposition for living in a luxury residential complex. They often mean that residents don't need to leave the building for certain tasks, offering a level of convenience that is highly sought after in a fast-paced city. The services and amenities are often what distinguish a standard apartment building from a luxury rental property. They are a way for the management to create a community and provide a streamlined, high-end living experience. It is important for prospective tenants to inquire about any potential fees associated with these services, as some amenities may come at an additional cost.
Onsite Services: The buildings provide a range of services directly on the premises, which can include things like a front desk or concierge, and package handling to simplify daily life for residents. As noted in some public feedback, while these services are offered, the quality of their execution can vary, making it important for potential residents to consider all aspects of the service experience.
Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: The building has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, ensuring ease of access for residents and visitors with mobility needs.
Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot: For residents who drive, the on-site parking lot includes wheelchair-accessible spaces, an important feature for accommodating all community members.
The Enclave at the Cathedral, marketed as a luxury rental destination, comes with a number of features and highlights that are intended to appeal to New York renters. These features often include the type of amenities and policies that are part of the broader package of living in a professionally managed building. They are designed to create an environment that feels more like a full-service hotel than a traditional apartment complex. However, it's also important to note that these features come with a certain set of rules and expectations that may not be for everyone. As with any rental agreement, the devil is in the details, and understanding the fine print is paramount. Some policies, such as those regarding guests and subleasing, have been a point of contention for past residents, so it is vital for any prospective tenant to directly confirm and understand the building's current regulations. This is particularly relevant in New York City, where a building's policies can dramatically impact a resident's day-to-day life and freedom.
On-Site Amenities: The building offers a variety of amenities, including a fitness center, resident lounge, and a landscaped roof deck. These features provide spaces for relaxation, social gatherings, and recreation without having to leave the building.
Architectural Design: Designed by Handel Architects, the buildings' design is a notable feature, with a facade that is said to complement the historic architecture of the adjacent cathedral. This unique design contributes to the building's aesthetic appeal and its prominent position in the neighborhood.
Proximity to Landmarks: The Enclave’s location directly on the grounds of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine is a key highlight, offering residents a distinctive living environment and, for some units, views of the historic building and Morningside Park.
For those interested in learning more about the Enclave at the Cathedral or inquiring about available apartments, the contact information is as follows. The building is located at 400 W 113th St, New York, NY 10025, USA. You can contact them by phone at (212) 969-0400, and their mobile number is +1 212-969-0400. It is always recommended to schedule an in-person visit and speak with the leasing team directly to get the most accurate and up-to-date information on availability, pricing, and building policies. A direct conversation can provide clarity on any concerns and help you determine if the building is the right fit for your lifestyle.
When considering Enclave at the Cathedral, a prospective renter must weigh the potential benefits against the reported drawbacks to decide if it is the right choice. On one hand, the building's prime location in Morningside Heights, its modern amenities, and its accessibility are undeniable draws. The convenience of living near major universities and public transportation, coupled with on-site features like a fitness center and rooftop deck, makes it an attractive option for many. The unique architectural design and proximity to a historic landmark also contribute to a distinctive living experience that is hard to find elsewhere. However, it is equally important to be mindful of the concerns raised in public reviews. Issues such as management's strict policies on guests, subleasing, and the handling of resident packages are serious considerations that could significantly impact your quality of life. The feedback from a former resident about a "hostile and suffocating atmosphere" and poor customer service at the front desk suggests that the reality of daily life may not always align with the "luxury" image. For New Yorkers who value personal freedom and a respectful, welcoming living environment, it is crucial to carefully investigate these claims and have a frank discussion with management before committing to a lease. Ultimately, the worth of choosing Enclave at the Cathedral depends on your personal priorities and your willingness to live within a set of specific and potentially restrictive policies, in exchange for its location and amenities. It is a decision that requires a full understanding of both the advertised features and the real-life experiences of current and past tenants.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1别租快跑!Think twice before signing a lease here.Management enforces extreme and invasive policies with no regard for tenant dignity or autonomy.Subleasing is strictly prohibited. You're only allowed to add one occupant, and even visitors must be accompanied by the tenant at all times. This means if your parents visit, they will be repeatedly interrogated or even humiliated at the door, and in some cases, they're warned that the police may be called if the tenant is not physically present.(BTW, if you think the manager cares, you're wrong. They are fully aware—and they allow it to happen.)These policies are not only unreasonable, but they also create a hostile and suffocating atmosphere for residents. For a building that markets itself as luxury, the reality feels more like a tightly controlled checkpoint than a home.I would not recommend this place to anyone who values personal freedom, respectful treatment, or basic peace of mind.
June 27 · Gyro Zhung (肉鸽)This building has lost my Amazon packages twice in just two months—always the expensive ones—and even delivered my packages to other people’s apartments. The front desk staff has terrible service and attitude. Paying such high rent just to be treated this way? Run away while you can!
August 21 · Mengtian ChenAbsolutely absurd policy for friends visiting especially with such expensive rent. The front desk has shitty attitude acting like they’re the owners of the building condescending to tenants. Avoid at all cost.
May 21 · Lester TangThis is the worst apartment I have ever lived and I would strongly suggest that anyone who wants to live here choose somewhere else.1. The rent is unreasonably high. Before we moved out, we were paying over $6K a month for a 2b/1b apartment. Even though we were paying such ridiculous high rent, WE WERE NOT TREATED WITH RESPECT. Staffs here talk to you in the rudest way you could ever imagine and they respond emails very slowly, if not completely ignore them.2. The move-out was a nightmare. You were not allowed to move any big furniture through the front door by your own. Why? Because they want you to leave all your furniture in your apartment so that they could either TAKE YOUR THINGS or CHARGE YOU a ridiculous high penalty. At the move-out day, one of the staffs is literally trying to take my roommate's bike in front of us even though we had emphasized several times that we still want that bike. NOT SO FAST YOU GREEDY BAST*RDS!3. The management team is unprofessional and doesn't show a slight respect to their tenants especially after your moving-out. Two days after the move-out, we received an email asking for payment for the damages we have done. When we asked them for a detailed breakdown of the payment, they simply didn't answer our questions and criticize us in the most condescending tone that I have ever seen in my life. They even threaten us for filing a claim with the Guarantors like we didn't have the money to pay them. This shows nothing but IGNORANCE, ARROGANCE, and GREEDY nature of the management team.
January 03 · Bochao XinWe resided in the Enclave for 3 years and enjoyed our tenancy. We are surprised to see many negative reviews. The apartments are new with a lot of natural light, new kitchen appliances and washer / dryer (they are small but they work), the wood flooring is high quality, and the bathrooms are small but with nice fixtures. The gym, rooftop and outdoor patio space are nice amenities and the building is well maintained. We found the staff to be friendly with very quick attention to maintenance issues. The property manager, Oksana, was helpful and provided us a prompt full return of our security deposit on move out. It was a great place to live in with a few negatives (occasional noise from neighbors, high prices, and strict rules on guests) but overall I’d highly recommend this building!NOTE: during our tenancy, this was prior to the construction noted in many of the reviews so this may have impacted our review
