We called Arthur Riollo who can genuinely be called the Mayor of Hastings Real Estate. He sold our house for more than we had even hoped for, but that’s only part of the story. Artie has lived in the neighborhood all his life, and is a second-generation realtor. This shows. He knows everyone. Since we had lived in the hundred-year-old house for so many years, and purchased it directly from owner, it needed to be brought up to code for the sale. Artie knew the electricians and the plumbers who were up to the task. He knew a very reasonable painter and fixer upper. He put us in touch with Susan Freedman, who became our attorney and kept us on track with good sense and humor throughout the negotiations. He also put us in touch with Kim Sava, a former costume designer turned “stager” who with an artist’s eye gently coaxed us into taking down many family pictures and favorite artifacts to make our house spiffy and appealing to buyers. She moved furniture around in ways we had never thought to consider, but clearly helped with the sale. In addition to selling our house, we also were looking for a smaller apartment, and Artie’s company helped with finding listings. He even called landlords on our behalf. When we thought that in order to move we would need to rent a storage unit for the items we packed, Artie ingeniously suggested using our garage as our staging ground. At every step, he guided a us through the process with calm reassurance and common sense. We cannot recommend him highly enough.

We needed to get the house sold quickly and she was on the ball every step of the way, telling us exactly what needed to be done. I was in Virginia, selling my mother’s house in New York, as my mother’s power of attorney. She went above and beyond, and made a very difficult situation easier. Alexandra is extremely knowledgeable, and knew exactly which repairs needed to be done, and which did not.
