This article will provide an in-depth overview of NYC Empire Apartments, highlighting its unique offerings, key features, and what makes it a practical and welcoming choice for a diverse range of visitors and residents.
The public reviews for NYC Empire Apartments paint a picture of a property that, while not new, delivers on its core promises of location and value. One reviewer described it as an "affordable unit in Midtown" that was "clean and complete with everything we needed." Another noted that despite a few minor issues with the older building, the central location and price made it one of the best inns in New York. The staff, for the most part, are described as responsive and helpful, and they were able to address and resolve many of the issues that arose. While one reviewer had a communication challenge with a non-English-speaking staff member and an issue with a laundry card, they ultimately recognized their own responsibility in the matter and still highly recommended the establishment. This honest feedback suggests that while the building is older and may have some quirks, the overall experience is positive, and the staff is dedicated to ensuring a good stay. The property is also noted for being LGBTQ+ friendly and a transgender safe space, which highlights its commitment to being a welcoming environment for all.
NYC Empire Apartments is located at 38 W 31st St, New York, NY 10001, USA. This is an excellent location in Midtown Manhattan, placing guests right in the middle of everything. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1・SummaryI consider this apartment very good. There are a few points that need attention, but for all of them I was able to solve most of them by talking to the staff. For the points that were not resolved (the laundry card), I was at least partially responsible. And the inn is, above all, well located and conscientiously priced, which alone makes it one of the best inns in NY.It is a great inn and I would use it again if I had the chance.・Points to noteThe building is unfortunately not new.For example, I stayed on the 2nd floor, room #209 (#29), and the bathroom door was warped and I could not close it properly. The stove is an old electric one and you have to be careful not to get it too hot when using it.This stay was in winter, but the room probably gets quite hot around summer (there is air conditioning). Also, you must go to Reception #5, which is located at the back of the first floor, in order to seek assistance in case of problems. In fact, during my stay, the central heating broke down once during the night, and I was the only one who was cold that night (but it started working naturally the next morning).Besides that, some of the staff at reception #5 do not speak English.I had to use the laundry room by “1) paying $10 as a deposit at Reception #5 and borrowing a laundry-only card, 2) charging $10 or $20 increments on the borrowed card, and 3) using the laundry at $4 for laundry and $4 for dryer, When I went to borrow the laundry card, the staff told me “I don't understand anything” (at this point, I did not realize she did not speak English). So I asked her if the deposit would be returned if I bought the card from the vending machine in the laundry room, to which she seemed to nod to me.So I purchased a card in the laundry room and when I went to return it the next day, another staff member told me that the $10 deposit was non-refundable if I purchased the laundry room myself, and that she did not speak English to begin with and that you were wrong. This was a problem that would not have happened if I had paid the $10 and rented the card in advance when I was briefed in the first place.I also felt that I was responsible for failing to properly check with the staff who said they had no idea what was going on.As a result, I decided to give up the $10 deposit on my card. Thus, there are a few things to note about this apartment.・Good pointsThe price is surprisingly low for this location. It is especially easy to get to from the 34th st station, where the yellow and orange subway runs (there are also escalators and elevators, which is rare in Manhattan). It has all the necessary amenities, and the rooms, while certainly older, are kept clean. Some reviewers have mentioned that there were bed bugs, but we were fortunate not to be victims of them.Bed bugs are a worldwide problem in many tourist destinations and have nothing to do with the cleanliness of the inn.We did have a problem with the bathroom door, but we told reception #5 of the problem and the staff came to fix it two days later. The heating system has some instability, but besides the central heating, there are electric heaters and air conditioners available, giving us multiple options. In addition, there is a slight problem with drainage, but that is a common problem that occurs in most hotels in NY.Moreover, the staff came of their own accord to fix it, even though we were not particularly concerned about it.I am very happy with my experience at this hotel.
February 14 · KENTARO HIRAKIThis is an affordable unit in Midtown, don't come in expecting spacious luxury. This unit was clean and complete with everything we needed. The host was responsive and helpful. We had a great trip and enjoyed getting to stay in the middle of everything!
July 07 · Colin McIntyreDO NOT BOOK HERE!!! This is an illegally operating short term rental/hotel. When arriving the office was not labeled as NYC Empire Apartments and instead was as a different organization. Email did not specify that additional payment for apartment was only payable in cash. When asking to pay via app or card was told it was not available. Agent at desk explained she was calling manager and was on phone for 20 minutes or more without resolution. Staff was rude. While waiting additional guests were denied a refund on their their deposit and stated they had not received wash clothes in room. I repeat DO NOT BOOK HERE! Read other recent reviews. Additionally we booked through the website which no longer lists these apartments.Update after the response from this company: To be absolutely clear, we were NOT escorted out of the building by anyone and there were NEVER police involved. Additionally, my husband is an attorney.
July 23 · Beth S HilliardIt was our first trip to NYC (family of 5) and we wanted to stay close to the action. Finding the apartment was easy, it was a close walk from Penn Station. The check in process was simple and the room was great for what we needed. It had enough room for us to manage our luggage and sleep and a great, safe place to come back to at the end of a long day. The host was easy to chat with and offered some great tips. Would definitely stay there again
October 20 · Jeff WalshThe location could not be better for that price! Walking distance to the Empire State Building, two block from Penn Station, great price and the attention was magnificent! Julia , the girl at reception #5 made sure we were getting everything we needed. Our host Alberto was very communicative at all times. The space was clean, kitchen was well equipped, target and Asian supermarket at walking distance as well. i would definitely go back to stay at this place!
