East Midtown Plaza Housing Introduce
In the dense urban landscape of New York City, a residential complex that offers more than just a place to live, but a true sense of community, is a valuable find. East Midtown Plaza Housing is a large residential real estate complex located in the Kips Bay neighborhood, known for its status as a Mitchell-Lama co-op. This program is designed to provide affordable housing options in New York City for middle-income residents. As such, East Midtown Plaza is not a typical real estate agency that facilitates external sales and rentals, but rather a housing cooperative that manages its own properties and community for its residents.
The unique nature of East Midtown Plaza as a Mitchell-Lama co-op means that it operates differently from a private rental or sales building. It is a community-oriented complex where residents are shareholders and have a say in the building's management. This structure fosters a strong sense of ownership and community spirit, which is reflected in the positive feedback from many residents. The buildings, which include two towers and low-rise duplex buildings, are known for being well-run, with praise directed at the professional and dedicated staff, including security, porters, maintenance, and the management office. This on-site team is crucial for maintaining the quality of life for all residents.
While the reviews and information provided highlight the professional management and well-maintained nature of the complex, one review also brings to light a public plea during a time of crisis. The request to prioritize apartments for frontline healthcare workers at Bellevue Hospital, located nearby, during the COVID-19 pandemic, sheds light on the building's close ties to its community and neighbors. This review, while not a direct critique of the building's operations, reflects a significant social and community issue and the building's importance within its immediate surroundings. It shows that, to some, the building is not just a place to live but a vital part of the local social fabric.
The management's efforts to maintain the buildings are evident in the positive resident feedback, with one person stating, "EMP Is the best!" This sentiment suggests that the on-site staff, from security to maintenance, contributes to a positive living experience. The daily operations of a large complex like East Midtown Plaza are a testament to the hard work of the people who keep it running smoothly. This hands-on, community-focused approach is a key feature of life in a cooperative building. The combination of well-run operations and a strong community feel is a significant draw for residents who are looking for a stable and supportive living environment in the city.
Location and Accessibility
East Midtown Plaza Housing is located at 400 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10010, USA. This address places the complex in the Kips Bay neighborhood, an area known for its proximity to medical centers, universities, and a mix of residential and commercial properties. Kips Bay offers a quieter residential feel compared to the bustling Midtown, while still providing excellent access to the rest of the city.
The complex is highly accessible to public transportation. It is within a short walking distance to major subway lines, including the 6 train at 28th Street. This makes commuting to other parts of Manhattan, including the Financial District and Midtown, very convenient. The location is also well-served by numerous bus lines, and it is a walkable neighborhood with a variety of restaurants, grocery stores, and local businesses. A notable feature is the wheelchair-accessible entrance, which ensures that the building is welcoming to all residents and visitors, a crucial aspect of modern urban living. The proximity to hospitals like Bellevue also makes it a prime location for healthcare professionals.
